Audio

This year I have released seven (7) albums, one (1) E.P., and one (1) single.

Albums

Thelonious Punk (December 2017) is a recording of an album that has some songs on it that I'm very proud of. I'm especially proud of the ones that make use of what they call 'melody', 'rhythm', and 'harmony'. A fun fact about this album is that the 'instrumental' piece called 'Head, Thelonious, Punk, and Toes' was completely made up on the spot, in a manner that some people call 'improvised'. It is not in a 'key'. I just randomly pressed the buttons (both black and white) on the piano, and then sped up what I had played. There is also a 'Designer Edition' of this album available on my Bandcamp page, which costs £107.34, if you're feeling saucy - https://petemurphy.bandcamp.com/album/thelonious-punk-undesigner-edition

Home Demos 2014 - 2017 (December 2017) is an expansive collection of things called 'demos', that I recorded at 'home'. 'Demos' is a fancy word for a recording that isn't the finished recording but still shows the 'potential' of the song. You can also add the word 'rough', to make 'rough demo'. This is when you do a demo, but the quality isn't as good. This collection has some 'rough demos' and some regular 'demos', but all of them were recorded at home.
A fun fact about this album is that the one about the bird is a true story, based on something that happened to someone on the internets. Another fun fact about this album is that I was once asked to take part in a world famous songwriting contest, which was based around a series of weekly 'challenges'. One of the challenges was to write a song that could be in the soundtrack to a horror fillum. I wrote Josephine. I think I came third (3rd). I don't like contests, and I don't know why I did that particular one - https://petemurphy.bandcamp.com/album/home-demos-2014-2017

Junk Funk Hospitle (November 2017) is an album that has some songs on it, but it also has some 'almost songs' and 'kind of songs' too. I made it in three (3) weeks. I love this album. My main inspirations while writing and record it were Dominic Robertson, Zach Phillips, and Sly Stone.
A fun fact about this album is that when I covered Dominic Robertson's 'Unreleased Ergo Phizmiz' album earlier this year, I got one of the lyrics wrong. I thought it was 'The bright, bright pier's alight', but it wasn't. I still don't know what the real lyric is, but I took the 'wrong' lyric, and made it into my own song. An even funner fact is that I sampled Dominic singing the right words, and put them in the song that resulted from me hearing the wrong words - https://petemurphy.bandcamp.com/album/junk-funk-hospitle

New Cartoons (October 2017) is an album that is a cover of the album New Cartoons by Zach Phillips. This was a challenging album to make, mainly because the songs were so difficult to work out. I have what they call 'a pretty good ear', and can usually work out songs very quickly. It took me eight (8) days to work out the twenty two (22) songs contained here. I'm very pleased with how this album came out.
A fun fact about this album is that there were loads of lyrics that I couldn't figure out. Zach helped me out with a few of them, but some of them are guesses. Zach encouraged any/all wrong lyrics - https://petemurphy.bandcamp.com/album/new-cartoons

You can check out Zach's original, here - https://zachphillips.bandcamp.com/album/new-cartoons

The Unreleased Ergo Phizmiz Volume One (July 2017) is a cover of the album The Unreleased Ergo Phizmiz Volume One, originally written and recorded by Dominic Robertson (aka Ergo Phizmiz). This was a life changing album for me to make. I had discovered the original artist, who had recorded the original album, earlier this year, and was bowled over by his prolificness and inventivity and brilliantasticness. He's released hundreds of hours of music, a lot of it for free. You should all quickly run to your internets, and discover this incredible artist for yourselves.
A fun fact about this album is that a misheard lyric became the basis for a song on my Junk Funk Hospitle album (see above for more information on that)  - https://petemurphy.bandcamp.com/album/the-unreleased-ergo-phizmiz-volume-one

Go Dark (March 2017) is an album that is what some people might call a 'stepping stone'. A stepping stone from what? A stepping stone to where? A stepping stone from the 'old Pete Murphy' to the 'new Pete Murphy' of course! I call it my 'hodge podge' album. I'm particularly proud of 'Walk With Me, Judith', and also that I was able to collaborate with an amazing musician from Australia called Liz Frencham, on 'Snow Moon'
A fun fact about this album is that on 'My Love' I was trying to write my own version of Van Morrison's 'The Way Young Lover's Do'. Obviously I didn't get anywhere near the greatness of that song, but that was my inspiration when I wrote it - https://petemurphy.bandcamp.com/album/go-dark-album

Cognitive Decline (January 2017) is an album that nearly never was. AGH! This was hard work. I love the songs, but the recording process was horrible. My OCD had me searching for some kind of non existent perfection, and I was doing take upon take of guitars and vocals. The session folders in Cubase were a complete mess. I actually abandoned the project and gave up music for a while. I decided to pick it back up again after a few months, dropped a couple of songs, got my friend Matt Malone in to put down some stellar backing vocals, and then ended up in a seemingly endless cycle of mix, "nah, not good enough", remix, "nah, not good enough", etc..
Naught For Naught was written with my long time collaborator David Graham, from Tennessee.
A fun fact about this album is that there are no fun facts. Like I said, I love the songs, but hated the process - https://petemurphy.bandcamp.com/album/cognitive-decline-album

E.P.

The Shizz (December 2017) is an E.P. that I wrote and recorded in six (6) days. It was a lot of fun to make. It is my first (and possibly last) foray into the world of what they call 'Hip Hops'.
A fun fact about this album is that... well, actually there are two (2) fun facts... The first (1st) is how the E.P. came to be in the first place. I was out walking the dogs with my wife, and a gangsta looking guy in a sparkly yellow car drove past us. My wife asked what I thought the colour of the car might be called. I said 'Mustard Bling', and the entire project instantly formed in my head. The song Mustard Bling ended up being called Black Tar Bling. The second (2nd) fun fact is that I posted my intentions to make a 'Hip Hops' E.P. on my Facebooks page. My friend Simon 'Badman' Jones left a comment that said 'Shut up and take my money!". So I wrote a song with that title and gave Mister Badman a writing credit  - https://petemurphy.bandcamp.com/album/the-shizz-ep

Single

Looking For A Letter (August 2017) is a single that I recorded that is comprised of two (2) fantastically ace songs by the aforementioned Mister Dominic Robertson (aka Ergo Phizmiz).
A fun fact about this single is that I woke up one morning, decided that I wanted to cover these songs. I learned, recorded, mixed, and released the single in one (1) day  - https://petemurphy.bandcamp.com/album/looking-for-a-letter-single
The original versions of these songs can be heard on the album Music For Pleasure, which you can purchase here - https://ergophizmiz.bandcamp.com/album/music-for-pleasure
